We must have planted around the same time. I checked yesterday - nothing. I got home from school today, and ta dah, tiny sprouts.

I always overseed because I am so unsure of my sprouting skills, so I have a lot coming up.

COngrats! Mine came up about 3 or 4 days ago. Frankly I though they'd be doing more, but I swear they look like they popped up, and then have remained the same (although that is probably not the case).
Does anyone know how old they are when they start making their "real" leaves?

Usually tomatoes get their leaves about the end of the first week.

I planted lettuce two days ago, and that is already up. Is it possible? Could this "black thumb" possibly be turning a wee bit green?

I can't wait to put all the little sprouts into the ground.

Oh, I know I know! I finally read about transplanting-seems the best way is to do it gradually-when they are bigger of course. Put the 'flats' outside & bring 'em in if temps drop...in & out of sun & wind...guess I'll do that next month...?

I started my on the 11th and they sprouted in 5 days. They are all looking good and I can't wait to transplant them.

My peppers took 10 days to sprout.

Aw man! I ran to the 'fridge to see if mine had sprouted but nope. I am trying to keep in mind that we just did them a couple of days ago and we have no heat in the house. So I KNOW the sprouting time will be much longer. But I just had to look. In any case I am glad for y'all!
God bless you and yours

Hardening off is really tricky. Yesterday and today it was in the 80s. This weekend, who knows. I am going to make a conscious effort to begin putting them out in about two weeks for the day, then bring them in right before bedtime.

Do you think that will work?

Sounds like a good plan!

I was so tempted to take 60 varieties of tomato seeds to the main cold frame today and put them into the waiting starters. But with the temperature that was in there, I'd probably have seedlings to worry about in 10 days. Going to force myself to wait another 15 days or so. Then figure on seedlings off and running by 1 April when they should be safe out there.

I saw that you had posted & couldn't wait to open the thread...but you're just as aprehensive as the rest of us! lol-must be hard living up north & not being able to start as soon as those of us farther south.
You have better luck (I'm thinking its more skill!!) than lots of us tho.

Patty

Two things that are really important to stay on top of while hardening off your plants is to keep them out of direct sun at first and keep them well watered. An hour or two outside on a warm, windy day can dehydrate the poor seedlings in nothing flat.

I've got tomatoes, papaya, some palms and some flowers coming up in my flats! Peppers are planted indoors and as warm as it has been here the last couple days I expect them to come up pretty quick. I have quite a few more seeds that I want to start but I have about run out of room!
I had to go look - right now it is 77 degrees in the kitchen and sure enough I have peppers that have come up! Oh goody - DH is the Pepper King around here and he will be thrilled.
Now I have to see if DS can get the tiller started and get him to work on the garden plot.

Transplanted my tiny ones to 3" pots...they seem to like it ok as well as their daily outings in the sun.
