Something is wrong with my squash

Hi all,

I have planted six squash hills of two different varieties, not close together. Well they have come up and are doing great except for two of them, one of each variety, they have wilted and dying, I don't know what to do. There aren't any bugs on the plants that I have seen I keep them dusted with DE and the whole garden is mulched and watered. What else can I do.

Probably the result of the cucumber beetle. A small green with black spots beetle which when it feeds on the plant, it injects a bacterium which will later cause the plant to wilt and die. The only control is early when the beetles appear, spray with malathion or sevin. Once the plant is infected, I don't think there is anything you can do.

probably squash vine borer. it's a small worm that burrows into the stem. they look fine one day, maybe get a few squash, then the next day or so, just laid over dead.

whoever finds a way to stop it could make a million.
