could I use a heating pad

as a mat for under my seedlings?

Or will it be to hot?

ridethatpony, that what i use keeps the seeds at 80 -85 f my tomato seeds are starting to sprout at 3 days. i use a casco heating pad that was bought at a yard sale for a buck. I do put a old fridge shelf between the pad and the seed trays. I use the lowest setting. You might want to test the heat overnight to make sure it doesn't get to hot. played with the settings.

If your talking about a heating pad made for people, there is a big fire risk. They are not designed for continuous use nor the risk of water coming in contact.
They are also not designed to have the heat trapped under the weight of plants 24/7.

Sometimes Wally World has heating pads for dogs on sale.
Maybe in ebay a deal.
