ginger plant from root?

has anyone ever started a ginger plant from ginger root bought in the supermarket? how do you do it?

plant the whole thing in a light well drained soil.

the time i tried chopping off pieces to plant it rotted.

Yeah, I'd suggest planting the whole root too. I have some that keep coming back, they're not the prettiest plant but they are easy to grow. Don't plant them very deep, just a couple of inches is ok.

Hey Guys; I grow several types of Ginger.Mostly the flowering types, however I also grow the Ginger for cooking.Plant it at the surface or just below the surface with the crown of the root showing.It doesn't take long for the sprouts to grow.It is the one Ginger that doesn't have a pretty flower.Works best in a greenhouse.
I also grow Galangal,which is similar.
