Lost my checkbook while breaking the garden today.

But I found it. Didn't realize it was missing till about 10 pm this evening. Grabbed a flashlight and went out to where I have been plowing the garden up and just happen to see something barely sticking up out of the dirt. Low and behold, there it was.

This reminded me of a true story that my Dad told me. He said one time when he was young and at home his dad borrowed $900. dollars from the bank to grow the summer crop of wheat.(in the 30's) He kept the money in his billfold and while plowing the fields it slipped out of his back pocket and got buried. The whole family looked and looked for days and never found it. That year they went broke and lost the farm.

Well I didn't have $900 bucks in the checking account and it wasn't borrowed. So I wouldn't have lost the little farmette. But I did worry some!

Sometimes the wife would like me to lose the checkbook before I start thinking about the garden.

Dang, I did that once. I borrowed a neighbors old John Deere popper with the old bucket seat to plow up my garden. After it was all done, I noticed that my wallet was missing with a very large check in it.

Had to turn half those furrows over by hand before I found the thing and haven't carried a wallet since. I always wear bib overalls and keep all my stuff in one of the bib pockets, secured with a rubber band.

When I returned the tractor the neighbor chuckled and said he should have warned me about the wallet stealing tendencies of those old bucket seats.
