Yes, I Garden In 25 Gallon Pots And Also Have Four 4' X 4' X 2' Deep Planters. The Planters Have Adequate Drain Holes As Do The Pots.
What You Get Depends On The Soil And How You Supplement It. Of Course, The Weather, Watering, Fertilizer, Shade Or Sun, Variety Of Seed, Pest Control, And Correct Companion Plants, Time Of Year, Plus Other Stuff I Cant Think Of......

How Deep Are Your Planters?

I Have Grown Lettuce, Tomatoes, Black Eye Peas, Green Bush Beans, Sweet Peas, Okra, Radish, dill, Corn And Crowder Peas. Also, Grow Flowers And Have Some Small Trees -started.....lime, Avocado & Mulberry.. I Usually Have A Variety Growing At Once.

The Quantity Is Lacking In My Method Since I Do Have A Variety Growing At Once. I Do Miss That. Right Now I Have Interplanted Pole Beans And Black Eyed Peas With Whatever Else I Have Growing. I Grow Lots Of Marigolds All Mixed In Too.

I Am In Sw. Fla. And This Is A Nice Time Of Year To Garden.....pots Dont Take Near As Much Watering. Have To Cover Up Everthing Up A Few Frosty Nights....but Really Containers Are Really An Easy Way To Go.... I Sit In A Lawn Chair And Move It Around.....

I plant my vegetable garden along the perimeter of our fenced-in backyard. This year, however, I'm trying potatoes in barrels. I painted them green in hopes that they would look better. I probably shouldn't have wasted my time! Here's the pic:

I posted a link on another thread about growing potatoes in barrels. The site was www.homeandgardensite.com. There's a lot of good information there.

I planted tomatoes in a large old trash can for several years. They did very well and came on again in late fall and I had tomatoes at Thanksgiving. They look rather neat too--no staking required, they just cascade down the sides.

I tried zuchini in another and it didn't work.

Last year I grew greens and one of those small watermelons. It actually worked reasonably well!

The lettuce did not do as well as the lettuce in the ground but it was earlier. I think it did not do as well because in the ground the lettuce roots can spread as much as they liked: I think mine were crowded in the pot. Still, it gave us an early bite of green. I have planted more in pots for this year.

The little watermelon was in a pot that was about 2 1/2 ' tall and 2' across. I had to water at least daily, but it DID produce a couple of small melons.
