Northern Garden Harvest Pics.

Not from this year, but a garden past where we had a decent growing season in zone 3.

Pumpkins. The large ones are 'Spirit' that stay orange as they grow rather than being green to 'turn' orange. They are great processing and halloween pumpkins averaging about 15 lb.
The variety of squashes was lots. The best were the white and golden acorn and the large hubbards.

Brussel Sprouts grown the way they should be. Leaves removed as they grow to enhance size of the multiple sprouts. Harvest after 2nd frost is ideal for best taste. these grew over 2 ft. tall and the variety is 'Oliver'

2 lb. Tomato (the pic shows the scale backwards from the photo taken on a web cam instead of being scanned ) This variety I believe is one of the 'big boy' or brandywine types.

view of part of the large garden. This garden was prepared one year before this growth form sod that was smothered under plastic and then rototillered with a large troy built tiller after one plowing with the 8N tractor shown in the background. size of the garden about 3/4 acre.

Thanks for sharing your pictures. Harvest is the best time of year, isn't it? Very rewarding.

How do you store your brussels? We pull them out of the ground, break off the leaves and then set the root end in a bucket and it goes in the root cellar. When we use up the sprouts, the stem goes out to the goats.

I like to blanch and freeze the brussel sprouts for longer term storage.

Moonwolf,
I've got property in Prince George that is supposed to be zone 3-4. There are only 90 days frost free. Do you have any ideas for what can be planted there? I was going to do the usual short season stuff like radishes, lettuce, tomatoes. Do you think I could sneak in potatoes? or is the season just too short? I love sweet pumpkin so I will be planting lots of that.
