Great Responses!
I was going to put it down in August, only because I just found out about it, I just thought to start at the earliest chance. I was also figuring that because the CGM is only a pre-emergence, that it would take a couple of years of faithfully applying it to gain some control! I found the information helpful in the extension link above.
11 years ago I purchased two acres and built a log cabin on it, and when I moved onto the property it was a howling wasteland! Over the years I have groomed and maintained it by mowing (all of it) and watering about 1/3 of it,(my lawn area is huge) but have done little to ammend the soil. Perhaps I should take amwitched advice and start building the soil instead of investing in the CGM? Makes more sense to me! What do you all think???
The cost of Corn Gluten Meal here is $29.00 per 20lb. bag.(feed store) 10 pounds will cover 1000 sq. ft. and I need to cover at least 8000. That would be approx. $116.00....twice a year!
If I were to compost twice a year versus using the CGM, I wonder if the cost would be about the same? What type of compost should I use? Can a well seasoned steer manure work as compost? Is fertilizer that much different than compost?
Thanks for all of your help, I greatly appreciate it.
