Jewel weed

Any one heard of this plant. Jewel weed. I found it in a posion ivy soap that I bought. How do you grow it? I found where it grows in the northeast and has quite beautiful flowers. It also is supposed to grow next to posion ivy? Are there seeds or cuttings? Is it the main ingredeant in Prepeation H?

Grow it by seed. The humming birds love their flowers also the seeds are dible and taste like walnuts. Look for it in shady areas near creeks and alongside roads. You can put a little of the leaves that are cushed up on stinging nettle to relive the burn it usually grows next to stinging nettle.

Have lots of it here can save seeds for you if you would like me to.The plant is watery and fragile, seeds pop like touch me nots.Once it gets started it grows plentiful.not hard to get rid of ,it s root system is mostly on top of the ground.

It grows in the same site conditions as poison ivy. You may never see them growing near each other though. Some have yellow flowers and others have orange. Euell Gibbons wrote a few books about eating wild things like Jewel weed (snap weed). He is dead now so I wouldn't eat what he did. I'd try different things. I use it to rub on my hands and arms, and pant legs whenever I know I have been near poison ivy. It works for some people. It doesn't work for everybody. You might try simmering the stalks in water and then putting the tincture into ice cube trays. That way, when the plant is unavailable, and poison ivy is still abundant you can take out a plastic bag from the freezer with the ice cubes in it. It will help to relieve the itch and anxiety of a rash and the cold ice will feel great on your skin in the summer.

An old gentleman near us picks it (grows near streams here, maybe because not mowed) dries it and mixes it in aloe juice. Then uses for poison ivy. He says take one plant home, touch the seed pod and you will have lots of them.

It grows wild here (NW MS) all down in our woods, but it's a little early for it now. By late May through the summer it will be all over the place. It has a very pretty bloom.

My grandmother cooked it into tea and wiped it on my poison ivy. It was the only thing that worked besides "Ivyrest".
