We set ours up in the spring-summer-fall only. I just dug into the side of a bank for the pit and cover a hoop frame with plastic. It is great, I can walk up and down the pit, don't have to bend over...There is not any extra space so it heats up well. Southeast Alaska here. I recommend it!
