Probably a bad idea, propane is heavier than air so it will pool and accumulate in the bottom of your BBQ until there is enough to ignite. Not much carbon in propane but as the BBQ is not made for complete combustion int he first place there likely won't be enough air for the gas, so you'll be making more CO than normal. You can try to Gerry-rig-ineer proper ventilation for the thing but I wouldn't.
