It wasnt that long ago HERE that we read all the naysayers with their 'they are too heavy, too slow, too underpowered' threads regarding electric cars.
And we see here a 1972 converted Datsun blowing away Vettes,Beemers, built Chevies like they were standing still and setting world records in the process.
Can only imagine where the future will take us,the last 15 years have just been amazing.
Thanks,that was a great link,really enjoyed it!

Holy shamoly! Thats some grocery getter! I wonder if that electric can beat the Viper I saw strip out a Suzuki Hayabusa on You tube. It probably can drop more hp on to the pavement faster than an internal combustion engine can!

Bet it would eat up that Viper, many Vettes and M3 Beemers are hardly slouches.
Yes,amazing that instant full torque off the line, the jump it gets on em is amazing!
And setting world record times,I guess there isnt any Viper out there that beats that ( AFAIK,for what its worth). Pretty amazing video, blew me away. Then cruising the streets in it,yup, thats just too cool.
I had a 71 Datsun Coupe BTW,sure was a sweet little car,that red/orange color with mags,black interior,that really was a neat car.

Depends,a strong rear end is pretty durable, electric motor does what its design capability is,Im betting he does better than the gassers do with a simple rotary electric, has to be far less stress than pistions, cranks, valves bouncing up and down changing directions and pressures,no?
Would be interesting to know, intuitively I would think its a simpler smoother system.
Wonder if he uses a tranny?

I'd have thought an electric drive train could be stronger and more durable than an infernal combustion engine. I wonder if they use an inverter and a perminant split capacitor motor. (I gotta go look at the site again)

I dought that there is an inverter involved. A 'Good' DC motor is gonna have some gosh awful torque on its shaft........
Thats pretty obvious from the video.......
Would be fun to see the reading on an amp meter......
He doesn't say anything about how many miles "around town" he gets.
For me to get to "stores I prefer" I would need a 50 mile range..

And another thing I caught. That "charger".
Very short video as he "ramps up" the charger output of that two blower unit.
That is a fancy ----- far from 'cheap' charger . .?!?!

Take a look at the home of plasmaboy and the White Zombie.
This is not an inexpensive drive around town. This thing is a drag racer that is street legal. Just like a $75,000 sports car, the goal is to go FAST!
The drive train has been specifically designed to handle the load. With this in mind, I would say it will last a very long time. I would be more worried about torquing the chassis into a pretzel first, but its undoubtedly well reinforced.
772 ft. lbs. of torque!!! Thats more than my 7.3l powerstroke diesel engine puts out. Short term DC motor output can be stunning.
Some specs on the car:
Motor: 'Siamese 8' Dual armature series-wound. What used to be two separate 8 inch electric motors, is now one custom built motor that's 25 lbs. lighter, 7 inches shorter, and more powerful. Thanks to 'Hi Torque Electric' and 'Dutchman Motorsports'.
Drivetrain: Direct drive (no transmission, clutch, or flywheel). Electric reverse. Custom aluminum driveline by 'Inland Empire Drivelines'
Controller: 2000 amp Zilla by 'Cafe Electric' with programmable series/parallel motor section switcher; ...launches at full torque (772 ft. lbs.) with motor sections configured in series mode, switched over at higher speeds to parallel for maximum horsepower. Thanks to Cafe Electric for their support.
Batteries: (lead acid version) 60 'Enersys' brand 16 ah' Genesis' deep cycle 14+ lb. AGM batteries for a total pack weight of 844 lbs...
System Voltage: 360 Volts (lead acid version) 374 Volts (lithium ion version)
Charger: Manzanita Micro PFC 75, Rudman Regulators.

Yep,wondered about a tranny. Just read an EV-1 motor was a 12,000 RPM deal.
Thanks for the specs,very interesting.

Having trouble posting, hope this isnt a double....
-------------------------------------------
Heres the very detailed history of White Zombie, and yes Virginia,it now eats Vipers for breakfast.
I loved the stories of the hotrodders with the massive burnouts and bucking their cars at the line, where he drives around the water trap and just stages, then leaves em in his rearview mirror the entire run.Really embarrasses em.Had to chuckle where the Chevy was showing off and the young dudes in the crowd who knew his car were firmly bet on the Datsun, too dang funny!Datsun kicked Chevs tail.
Gotta love it,quite a character that guy is.
Thanks again for the OP and the links, I REALLY love this stuff!

Tesla can do 240 miles on a 3.5 hour charge.Add the diesel genny and its a very doable vehicle for most anybody.
Someday maybe, but I wont hold my breath, that would literally change the world as we know it.Too much BIG money isnt going to see that dream massed produced.
240 mile range,60 cent/watt solar cells (Yep,nephew just bought a pile of em on craigslist,Unisolars).....both exist today, just need the massed produced batteries to bring the cost down IMO.
BUT,the day will come eventually that you can buy a reasonably priced 240 mile electric, battery costs are falling rapidly,as they should,as capacity/automation slams down costs.Li-Ion fell what,30% in just a couple years?
