The fairy on the top of the tree

When I was a kid we had a fairy on top of our Christmas tree. it was a little doll, about 5 or 6 inches tall. And when I was little, mu mum made her a dress.

Taking out the fairy, and washing the dress was all part of th eritual of preparing for Christmas each year. That dress finally ran out of life, when I was about 17, and as luck would have it, my brother brought us a goose complete with feathers for Christmas lunch. My SIL to be made the fairy a new dress out of goose feathers that year, and for quite a few years the fairy wore that. Finally that too gave up, and so for a few years we had a star. But I still have the fairy!!!

So I decided that this year, I am going to make a new dress for the fairy, so that she can be on my DD's tree every year And who knows - maybe one day, she will make a dress so that the fairy can sit on HER daughter's tree LOL

My problem is this. What to make the dress out of? I have an old slip that I could cut up happily but it has gone a bit yellow. Would the stuff you can buy for whitening net curtains whiten it up? WHat else couold I made it out of?

Any ideas?

TIA

Not all Americans put stars on the top of their trees. I have an angel at my tree's top. I would give the whitener a try. Or do you have some lace? I'm sure she'd look lovely in a lacey dress. Will have to think on this for other ideas.

I'd get fabrics good for a wedding or formal dress. Then some sparkly something to emblish it.

Hoggie - sure wish I could send you some fabrics for your fairy... I have such wonderful white with silver hologram sparkly stuff!..

Hoggie, if your slip is nylon, I do not think it can be whitened with bleaches, etc.

Tulle should work fine for your fairy dress. It's bridal veil material and comes in many colors and cheap to boot.

Not all of us! I put a mouse on top of my tree. I sewed angel wings on her dress, so she's a Christmas angel mouse!

You can kind of see her in this photo:

Hoggie, I looked at your most recent thread about your Christmas fairy and it looks like you are doing a great job with her dress.
