Rustic Quilt Swap - ENDED(15 +1 blocks)

This is the official sign up thread for the "Rustic Quilt Swap".

Deadline to sign up will be: midnight - Sept. 27, 2012.

Mailing date will Nov. 7, 2012.

The size of the blocks should be 12.5 inches square, so when sewn together they make a 12 inch block.

Wash the fabrics and iron before using the fabric. Gets the sizing chemicals out and pre shrinks it so it will be consistent when later made and washed with the other swap blocks.

Pattern and block is any pattern of your choosing.

Colors are of what you would find in a cabin scene. Hunter Green, golds of leaves, deep reds of the maple leaves, and browns. 1 inch will be suspended as there are some cute prints with cabins on them.

Be sure to label each block with your screen name, so we know who made each block. A good tip is to 'baste' them on with a long stitch so it's easy to take out but will travel well in envelopes. Straight pins are not good. Tape comes off too easy. Safety pins are another option, but do add a lot of bulk.

You will be making 1 blocks for each person who signs up + one extra for the hostess.

The hostess for this swap will Horsemom. She will be contacting each person who signs up, via PM, to give her contact information and you will, in turn, PM her with your contact information.

When you mail, be sure and send them to the hostess with Delivery Confirmation and then post your DC number in the thread.

Also when mailing, be sure you enclose a self-addressed mailer and be sure you have attached enough postage for the return of your package. It's important to not forget this step and don't send the hostess funds to provide your postage -- including enough to cover the return Delivery Confirmation from the hostess. You must attach your own postage! The hostess should be able to just sort, stuff and mail. Also enclose a filled out delivery confirmation label so she can just attach it and mail.

Problems: - we all understand that things happen; however, remember you are making a commitment not to a quilt, but rather to your fellow members. If an emergency does arise, please let Angie or myself know ASAP. We may be able to work with you in severe situations.

The swap is open to all members in good standing.

If you have not participated in a previous swap, please be sure and read all the FAQ about swaps that are posted at the top of this forum.

Have a great time with this one!!

Woooo Hooooo I'm so excited this swap is finally here!!!!!! I LOVE these colors and have waited all year for this swap. If anyone need some inspiration on colors here are 3 sample blocks I made Sample blocks

I'm also excited to hostessing my first FULL swap, my last attempt was 4 years ago and ended in divorce No worries we are gonna have a blast! I've got to keep this short as I'm trying to finish my fair entries! Let the sign ups begin, or continue for that matter. I'm looking forward to seeing all the beautiful blocks!

I love the blocks, Horsemom -- really very striking. I'm surprised they are so bright, as I had a completely different interpretation of "rustic cabin - autumn colours". I'm very much a literalist and was thinking forest autumn colours. I guess it's back to the drawing board for me. But I think I can still use the focal fabric I purchased (a lovely autumn cabin print). I'll just have to find brighter colours to pair it with than my sample block turned out, or my blocks will be downright dingy compared to yours! I really love your colour combinations, especially in the first one.

No, No, No you dont need to find different fabric! :-D Mine really arent that bright. The pics are brighter then they are. The cranberry is really a deep cranberry color not the bright red in pic. My green is a spruce green, and my blue is very denimy ( is that a word?) Your interpretation sounds fine to me :-) My sample blocks make "me" feel fallish when I look at them. The one I made with all the tiny pieces is not going to be my swap block, it is brighter then I wanted, and it was way hard, I've made 2 and neither turned out square. There went my fair entry :-( The colors might not match perfectly, but like the 9 patch swap, they will all still fit together perfectly :-)

Maxine, you know you want to join us :-) It will be so much fun! If you like I can send you a copy of the Companion Star. It is a very pretty block, but it was a little too time consuming to do for a swap, LOL!

Melissa I knew you wouldn't be able to resist this one ;-)

I'm watching and thinking. I have a big week planned though. On Thursday I will be married to my best friend for 35 years, and my dad will be celebrating his 85th birthday!!! Hubby and I are going away for a few days, won't be back until Sunday. I plan on visiting a few quilt shops while I am away, so will see what I can come up with. I'll let you know something next week. Not leaving until Wednesday, but got lots to get done before we can leave, (even for just a few days). Keep signing up, and I will be here again next week. Hi everyone! I've been lurking around this swap board for awhile, and think I'm ready to take the plunge of doing lots of blocks for a swap.

In other words, can I play too, please?

Block must be predominately the colors mentioned when eyes are blured. Using other colors is totally acceptable as long as they don't become the predominate color seen when eyes are blurred.

I live in an area that has very little fall colours, so am intriqued by the idea of purple this time of year. I'm curious what trees turn purple? At times I have four season envy. Then I think of the ice and snow, and am happy with our two seasons.

We have wild asters here that are purple in the fall. Very pretty with all the rusts and golds of the trees.

I think I have found some fabric that will work for the colors for this swap..red, golds, browns, & greens.. however the green is not a hunter green,, about two shades lighter.. maybe??,, might be okay for the swap?? What say you Angie?? I'm blurring,.. )

After I thought about it, I realised that our fall flowers (what few we have) are purple also. And usually yellow goldenrod, but it's been too dry this year. Spring (all two weeks of it) is my favourite season, especially if we have rain and the bluebonnets run rampant. This swap is going to be so much fun with all of us having our own interpretations!
