tatler canning lids

I am wanting to get some and slowly start using them exclusively, too bad they are so pricey. I know in the long run they will pay off.
A question I have though, can you reuse the rubber rings too or just the cap itself?
If you can reuse the rubber rings, how many times can they be used before they start to nreak down, dry rot, or crack?
Also, when the metal lids seal, the tell tale pop is heard, and the center button pulls in. How can you be sure the tatler lids have sealed?

I know I will be in the minority but after almost 3 years of trying, I sent mine back to the company. I tried everything the company told me to do and after 3 years of trying all different advice, I still had a 30-40% failure rate. They were very nice about it but I simply could not get them to work consistently - water bath or pressure canning. Everyone else seems to love them, I truly hope they work for you. The idea is great.

If you can wait awhile sometimes you can get a fantastic sale.

I heard about a sale quite some time ago and told my neighbor who cans big time. She and a friend of hers placed a huge order.

So far shes very happy with the lids.

dixie yes the rubber gasket gets re-used. I think I read on here somewhere some folks have used theirs for many many years.

I took advantage of the half off sale they had last year. Got a bunch. So glad I did. I have had only one seal failure in over 200 jars of food put up.

You do have to have the right touch, only tighten them til the ring stops, can them, then you have to tighten them right after they come out of the canner.

To tell if they seal, first, you can see as the center of the lid sinks down a bit. But to tell for sure, after waiting the 24 hours to cool, you grasp the edge of the lid with your fingertips, lift straight up just a little bit. If it's not sealed it will come right up.

I, like mzgarden, do not care for my Tattler lids. I did sell a few but have decided to keep the rest in case I really can't get or afford the metal lids. I buy them by the flat at Walmart for a fairly decent price. The Tattler had to high a failure rate for me.

Never used them but looked into them and yes you can reuse the rubber seals, probably till they show signs of heavy use. I read a comment on them, which was don't tighten too tight until after coming out of the canner else you get a high sealing failure rate. Like I said never used them but thats my research, as many as i'd need would be a big investment.

I have been using Tattlers for about 4 years now and have switched completely over to them. The company says the rubber rings last around 20 uses. I bought a couple of extra boxes of rings for replacements but haven't needed any yet. It is a bit of a learning curve at first because the steps are a little different than the metal lids but it has been so worth it for me. I do agree, though, that they have great sales every once in a while so I saved up and got most of mine during one of their sales. I figured that at the price I paid at the time, I only needed to use the lids 4 times before they paid for themselves. Happy canning!

I have slowly started switching over too. It does take a little while to get used to them, but I don't have anymore failures than I do using regular lids. I also wait until they run a good sale & then stock up on more.

I love them. I only buy them when they offer really good sales, but then I buy at least 500 at a time, because not only are those already cheaper, but the sales makes them actually affordable.

Hmmm, now I'm wondering if I need to try again. I really really wanted them to work. When you say 'they run a good sale' where should I be looking for sales? Maybe I can try again.

If you are on facebook, you can "like" their page called Tattler Reusable Canning Lids and they share their sales on that page.
