Floating jars of apples

Has any one ever had this happen?. When I checked my processing apples I found several jars floating! I'm thinking may be I packed the jars to full? I did hot pack them.

Might you have air bubbles between the apples that the syrup didn't fill?

I made sure I removed the air bubbles <sigh>

Only other thing I can think of is if the water boiled too hard and it was mostly steam. Do you use a rack to keep the jars up off the bottom of the canner so they don't get spots hotter than the water bath?

I'm with WIHH, do you mean the jars are floating (bobbing) around? You can put an additional rack on top of the jars and weight it down, but I've never had jars bobbing around. Are the jars full?

Susie, had this very thing happen to me for the first time in 40 years this summer. I had raw packed. I don't know if it was the apples or what but did some more of the very same type of apple and hot packed that time and they were fine. My jars were not to full, the canner was full, everything was "by the book". Have asked everyone I know and no one seems to have an answer. I don't think I will ever raw pack that apple again - it was a delicious.
