Small plums from "fruitless plum" tree

The home I recently moved into had an odd tree that I assumed was some kind of cherry tree but I was told the fruit was "no good for anything". But I recently found out that it is a "fruitless plum". Which is an odd name considering it does have fruit, they are small plums that look like little dark purple cherries. But anyway, I was wondering if there are any canning recipies that I can use these for? I have a fairly small lot and don't have space for a tree that doesnt give anything "usefull" but its such a pretty tree and I hate to cut it down. So any and all ideas and advice anyone has about using these small fruitless fruits will be appriciated! Thanks!

I'm so glad you posted! I just discovered a tree in our backyard with exactly the same type of fruit! I also discovered a pie cherry tree last year. LOL. Yep, been here near on 5 years and still discovering things! We didn't get near enough of the little plums to do anything with except try them for a snack.

How did they taste? The decorative trees are for flowers more than fruit, but my understanding is that if it has any flavor, it's just the same as regular fruit. Flowering crabapples aren't so tasty, so not much use, but if the plums are tasty, I would go for it
