brochure for tattler lids ...

This came in the mail and it talks about "canning lids & rings"; but when it shows how to use them, it talks about the "metal" "screw band".

The part that talks about ordering these tattler lids makes no mention (that I can tell) about also purchasing the "screw bands"; so my question is:

Are these "screw bands" the same metal bands many use when canning, i.e. metal 2-part tops (flat part with rubber on it and part that screws on)?

If so, I am guessing I need to order those "screw bands" separately. Correct?

Yes - they are the same metal screw bands used when canning with metal lids. I don't know if tattler sells them but they're available everywhere you buy canning supplies. They are reusable. You remove them from the jars after they have cooled, WASH AND DRY THEM and use them again next time. If you don't wash and dry them, they get rusty and leave your pretty white Tattler lids looking pretty grungy.

I would suggest putting an ad on craigslist or freecycle.org asking if anyone has any canning lid bands they would give you. You'll probably be overwhelmed with offers! Jan in CO

Has anyone used these tattler lids? I am going to start canning this year-after not canning for over twenty years now, and my daughter sent me the link. Anyone have any experience with them?

CollieFlowerWV - if you type 'Tattler' in the search bar here you will find several previous discussions about them that include feedback on them from users. They cover the pros and cons of them as well as other info. I'd post a link to them for you but we can't post search results links effectively.

Please do keep in mind when deciding whether or not to use them that they are NOT USDA Canning guidelines approved like the regular 2 part metal lids are. They have never been tested so using them is at your own risk.
