Teeth for carders

I have some very old (antique) carders that belonged to my dh's family, and I'd love to put some new wire teeth (is that the correct term?) on them so we can use them. The current ones are falling out, the underlying leather is rotten.

Does anyone have some of this stuff to sell? Or know where I could get some?

Try this:
http://www.howardbrush.com/handcards.html

They sell carding cloth and they also do reconditioning of hand carders. I have a set of Howards and they're very nice.

Yes they sell the cloth, but it is mighty expensive. Their minimum order and such, I think it is just as economical to buy new ones. A while back there was an effort here to have a bunch of us go in on some of the cloth to reduce expenses but the idea fizzled out.

I expect that, with the carding cloth, a person could make a pair of hand carders pretty easily, if they had basic construction skills. Anyway, howardbrush is the only place I have found that sells it. They are really nice, accommodating people to talk to. But the cloth is expensive.

It was me that started that effort but only Risa and I were really interested...then I got 2 pr of carders with my wheel so that left Risa! Anyway, I didn't think that the cloth was unreasonably priced myself - if I remember right with your own handles the cloth was about 1/2 the price of new carders. Well, they have a toll free number so it doesn't cost you anything to check it out. This thread reminds me to check about making a finer roller for my drum carder....why buy something new when you can take twice as long and have all the figuring out fun for 1/2 the cost

Woodland Woolworks sells just the cloth, I think. I'm not sure how much it would cost you, but I'm pretty sure you can buy just one set.
