Jersey Milk Cow

We milk one Jersey cow. We bred her via A/I initially at 15 months old. Her first calf was a full blooded Jersey Heifer. Her first lactation is ending soon. We did not re-breed her until she was 11 months into the lactation while dairies usually re-breed after just two or three months. Cows can give milk more than 18 months with no problem even though the quantity may suffer. We milk twice per day and have raised three successive calves during the last 15 to 16 months. Our cow is due in early October 2009. We will dry her up at the end of this month. She is still giving 2-1/2 gallons of premium milk per day. We have a heifer (half Holstein and half Jersey) that we will sell soon. She is about 5-1/2 months old now. Any other one only milk cow owners out there milking?

Hi there,
We have two milking Jerseys and two bred heifers, so soon we will be milking four Jerseys.
You might want to post this over in the cattle section where we chat about our cows. This section is more for ways of using milk.
