Wok

Nice score here. I just bought an extra large Circulon wok for $25 from the Grocery Outlet. They are having a sale on quality cookware. Lots of nice pans, mostly odd brands like Martha Stewart, but good solid thick gauge pans with good quality handles.

I wanted a wok to use with the side burner on my barbecue. I'd been to the restaurant supply house and a large wok was $50, but all the ones they had were scratched up, so I didn't buy.

I'd only gone into the Grocery Outlet to buy some cherry Klondike Bars (yum) before they were all sold out. I saw the wok and grabbed it up, quick.

I can cook stir fry on the glass top range, but it doesn't really get the heat needed. So, I am going to try the side burner on the propane barbecue and hope the flames will go high enough to go up the sides of the wok.

Maybe if that doesn't work, I will try the wok on the turkey fryer.

I have a small carbon steel wok that my familly bought for me years ago. It is thin and conducts heat on the bottom well. The side burner on our gas grill works OK and is about the right size. It could stand some more BTU's.

You have inspired me to try it on the box stove at the ranch over one of the open eyelets. Have fun.

If you can find a hand hammered wok, I find they are the best. I have one I found at a sale for about $20 and wouldn't trade it for anything... It's thin, so it doesn't take a huge flame to make it cook right, and the hand hammering helps to hold your food up on the sides better.

We have a cast iron wok that I use on our gas stove. I love it! It heats up much hotter than any other wok I'd ever used, and meat will sear-cook rather than just giving off all its juices.

I have one too. I use it when I use my Perfection kerosene stove. The Perfection doe not throw out enough BTUs for a steel wok . The cast iron works great though.
