I coat with bag balm, have tried most creams on the market, and they just aren't working. What do you use?

The bleach amounts are minimal (teat wash and sanitizing recipes from fiasofarm.com), and will eventually try chlorohexadine (sp) to see if that is less harsh (thanks to a suggestion by the great lady who bought Corabelle's calf), but meanwhile I still need to get the pain and rawness under control.

As usual, thanks for all the knowledge and experience everyone on this board so willingly shares. Merry Christmas!!!

Try plastic gloves, ive talked to two farmers that wear them.

Wear gloves when you can. When I worked on that dairy farm we used gloves most of the time. You can get the disposable nitrile(sp?) gloves rather inexpensively. I used to get mine from Lab Safety Supply. I think you can also get them from Gemplers. Both have world wide web presence.

I'm surprised someone didn't mention Corn Huskers Lotion. Put it on. Rub it in. It's non-greasey.

Smile my hands are raw

my hands are the same, i use plain label petroleum jelly from any store, it works better than any of the hand creams and lotions, and i've tried most of them.

Chapped sore hands

Hi All to people that have responded to this topic so far, as of 1-2-05

In post #17 of this topic. I wrote" Send me your snail mail addy. I will send you some of our products. Lotion, creams and soap. This is free of charge. I will even pay shipping. I think this product is that good. Try it, you may like it. We do not charge a lot for our products, but do get a kick out of helping people.
Send your addy to me in private messages on this board and we will send it out.

Thanks for all the replies, my computer has been onthe fritz, so I had to wait until school started to get back online. I'm using uddercreme and socks at night as that is what I had on hand (no pun intended It is working better than the bag balm especially on my palms. My daughter bought me a shea butter hand creme the day before. I'm sure it as quite expensive and it provides relief, but the healing is probably going to be slow going. For prevention, I need to get some disposable gloves. Before I worte my initial post, my husband bought me latex dishwashing gloves, but they were awkward to milk with and I felt like I wasn't cleaning her sufficiently and contaminating the water. They were a size too big (to get them on and off easily, so he thought), so I think I'd feel more comfortable with disposable and the right size. Thanks also for the source on cocoa butter.
