So~ I was needing to do some updates to my rusty old trailer~ I haven't gotten the chains put on to keep the steers from jumping the back doors~ but I did get some rustoleum put on~ here is the "Before" picture.....

And here is the after picture~
I decided to use both black and white rustoleum! I still need to do a second coat of the rustoleum....and I'm gonna paint a moon on the back doors there where the steer jumped over (ya know~ where the Cow jumped over the moon!) and hang chains there across the back over the doors to stop the jumping.... But I was just so very pleased with the initial paint of the rustoleum I had to share! ....(I'm having some fun with it!) |
I've got a trailer you can paint too!
|
I'm gonna try this!(:
|
You shoulda kept on painting and done the Suburban, too!
|
It's a van....
And actually I plan to! LOL! The paint is coming off the van too and for years I've been threatening to get some black rustoleum and paint the van like a cow~ but I was afraid to pull the trigger and do it.....yesterday I poured myself a drink and told me friend Carol "I own the trailer and there are no 'adults' here to stop us!" Luckily when my husband got home he thought it was as funny as Carol and I still think it is! But he's still not sure he wants me to do the van...... I'll just do it sometime when he's not home..... |
Love it, and I will be stealing the line " there are no adults here to stop us"
|
I love it I keep telling my husband I'm going to do that to our feed truck (1984 ford with a hydra bed) the truck needs paint bad. Did you do it with the spray cans? or with the paint on kind?
|
Spray on rustoleum. I power washed it to knock off loose paint and rust~ then I sprayed rustoleum reformer ~which happened to be black~ on the super rusty corroded looking areas. Then we went in with the black and white rustoleum to make the spots. It was kind of hard to convince Carol to play along~ but she made some of the best spots once she started! It needs another coat today~ we ran out of the black rustoleum on the other side of the trailer~ so there is a bit more work to do to it. Then paint the cow jumping over the moon on the back and hang some chains and I'll be ready to haul the bull in next spring!

Very cute looking trailer, will sure be fun to drive that around town! Everyone will know who is coming at them. Kind of like Johnny Cash's Cadillac, being the "only one like it" in the song.
We repainted our stock trailer this summer, fixed the rusty places, but only used white paint. Does look 100% better and matches the truck too. Just kind of plain, next to yours! I AM going to use that "no adults around" line for sure!! |
Love it !
But please reconsider putting something solid over that opening, like another door w hinges maybe....I loaded a Angus bull couple years back,on a stock trailer,he tried very hard to get back out, every little hole he wanted to jump though, almost got his foot stuck jumping up on the back door ,maybe 3" space.....lol ,I swear I aged a few years, never again ! Ps,he wasn't a 'bad' bull otherwise! Sent from my HTC One V using Homesteading Today mobile app |
Looks like some one removed the top half of the rear doors. Can still see part of the hinge. I would put it back.(have new ones made.)
|
I would like to have solid doors back there but I'm just not really sure where to start or who to ask to get something like that made.
|
Love love love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
anybody that does welding for a living can make them or a tech school could fab them up
and usually cost the price of steel and a coke for the instructor. and they don't need to be solid mine are just frame and bars that run across about 6 inch apart. No un-athorized exit. |
You could also go to a local mechanics shop and see if someone wants a little side work. I make odd things for people all the time.
Great paint job. Larry A World Away |
It looks wonderful! I have a 2 horse and a stock trailer that need painting and after seeing this, I might bite the bullet and try doing at least one of them myself to see how it turns out. :)
We had a 450 pound butcher hog go out the back of our horse trailer one night! We had loaded him in late the night before he was to go to freezer camp (it was so hot during the day we waited until it cooled off that night) Up early to leave the next morning and the pig was gone! Apparently, he decided he wanted back out with his buddies so he went out over the top of the back gate - we'd never had one do that before! He was back next to his pen mates and followed a bucket of feed right back in but we were surprised. |

So here is what I did~ I bought a "Bully" brand tail gate web~ sewed some fabric inside to stop the steers ability to see out (naturally I used cow print fabric)~ sewed a few extra ties in (I don't think it will stop a determined steer but I think it will cause a normal steer to consider his options a lot before trying to force his way OVER those back gates now) And then I painted on the Cow that jumped over the moon.
|
You are very talented and artistic. You've got me wanting to paint my stock trailer but I'm afraid mine won't look as nice as yours. Way to go.
|
Oh for goodness sake, that came out great.
Now your horses will be ashamed to go for a ride in there. :p |
I'm pretty pleased with it~ though I'm still considering options for that over the gate net. I *think* that should work....but I keep seeing that steer go over those doors in my mind. I'm considering some hog panel fastened on via carriage bolts and large washers. Gotta be light enough two fat old ladies can do it quickly if needed.
And of course you should paint your trailer! Whats the worse that happens? You don't like it and go back over it with all one color rustoleum..... Oh darn....the trailer is now that much less likely to rust! PAINT IT! Do it when there are no adults around to stop you~ pop a beer and vandalize your own trailer. It was fun! |
Paint your wagon! Fun.
