It looks like it a "shorthorn plus" bull, which is some sort of "registered" composite bull that is between 1/4 and 7/8 shorthorn.

American Shorthorn Association

I'm not so sure I see the value of using a bull like that.

There has been a lot of Maine mixed into the short horn breed lately, I've been told black is now an approved short horn color.

ramiller there are a lot of composite bulls in use now. Some of them sound like they would have made a good terminal cross steer instead of a bull.

There are two excellent threads here that you would find helpful. The first is the rotational grazing sticky at the top of this forum.
The other is the tutorials thread started by PaulNKS:
Cattle tutorials

Both are excellent jumping in points and will begin to edify and build your cattle vocabulary. The tutorials thread is a fair bit lighter than the rotational grazing thread. I still haven't hit every page of that one yet. I take it in large bites...

He not only does not look like a shorthorn, but he has lousy conformation. I wouldn't have a bull that looked like that on my place. Unless, of course, your heart's desire is to raise low priced junk cattle.
