still a young bull.
In my response I said "He is fine. He isnt starved at all! Thanks!!!" I had to do the 'thanks' like that because i think thats what irritated me the most about the email...and the emailer was a woman based on the name. I didnt post the bull on craigslist cause we dont really have it... I posted it on a similar type site though....

but anyway, ya..what I WANTED to say was "get some glasses and blank off" but the lady in me wouldnt let me lol.

*edited to ad-- and yes..he just turned 3.

So much for my "I was told I'll go broke with dexters" post. I paid $700 for him last year, I was asking $900 for him this year because he is 'proven'. Well after I agreed to trade him my phone was ringing off the hook from people trying to buy him! Even hours after I deleted the ad. I talked to some wonderful people right in my area that are also raising dexters and I am working out a deal to buy some weaned heifer calves. LOTS of people have them. I also had a bunch of people email me and say they werent interested in the bull at this time, but they wanted to know if I had any heifers or cows for sale. Wow. makes me feel good. I hope the trend continues for a while.

When posting a picture of a bull always post age. So they know if he is fleshed out or not.
He is just now suppose to look like a bull. Dexters, Highlands, and few others, bulls don't mature until they are 3 Yrs. old. Nice looking bull. WE just did that trade earlier this year White Highland bull for Brindle Heifer he was about 15 mos. She is due the end of this year.
Oscar said She was in heat getting off the trailer. Hes was her best friend for 3 days. Good luck with your heifer.

Your bull looks fine. I think that third year is the start of the major changes in a bull's body and looks. In two years, you won't recognize this bull. This fella is just starting to hit his stride.

Having your bull over fat is no good ether he looks ok no ribs showing .dairy type livestock don't put on fat like beef types do and often are more anguler .the old farmers often had a few altrueisms or sayings to go by though .the two times your working stock should be fat are when you buy em and when you sell em.
Those jiggly fat grain feed bulls often don't perform as well as the slimmer ones that are refered to as pasture ready .

To breed my cow I took in a dexter bull on a feed lease and the owner asked me to put him on a diet--- when she picked him up his condition was similar to this and she was thrilled with his results from sending him to "breeding camp".

I'll get to see his "results" in a little less than 3 months and counting.
