Did you send the Holstien? I'm curious as to what she brings up there. Do you mind letting me know?

I'll let you know. The auction was yesterday. The stockyard apparently didn't want to take her to the dairy sale. He said he was going to try to sell her locally. I hope he can do it. I did have her on craigslist and ebay classifieds. I also called 2 local dairy farms that I know.
I think he probably doesn't want to take her to the dairy barn b/c she is not in milk and so far out from calving.(due in nov.) We normally wouldn't have dried her off so soon, but she had some issues with the heat and her milk dropped off. We gave her antibiotics and after that her milk isn't any use to us........... We have very picky customers.

We got $750 for her. I'm guessing the stockyard got around $900 for her.

Ouch. Little low for a bred Holstien.......but here in drought conditions....about what I'd get I'm guessing.

I call the sale barn in Wayland to see what the prices are before selling an animal privately or sending it to the butcher. It's just nice to know the going rate.

Ummm... I think I'd be looking at the check stub. To pay $150 in commission is way too much. The last time I sold a single was actually an old herd bull that was 16 years old and I had to replace. I sold him and a younger problem bull.

With the two combined, I was charged the following:

Vet: $4
Inspection: $0.90
Commission: $44.99
Insurance: $1.98
Yardage: $2.00
Meat Board: $2.00
Total: $56.87

I think you got messed with if you paid $150 in commissions for one. Both sold as slaughter for a total of $1799.40 and I got $1742.53.
