We do have a vet; he gave her a basic health check before she was bred, and gave us Lutalyse to synchronize estrus.

We just have the one Dexter and two goat wethers for companions. We have plenty of space, but we're limited by facilities right now -- buildings and perimeter fencing.

I hope we can get her bred too. Next time I'll have Doc do the preg check and re-breed her if she's open. Thanks for all of the feedback.

Don't feel bad...I bought a cow and a heifer and got them home 3 years ago. They were suppposed to be bred and I just assumed they were. I waited and waited and posted pictures on here just to be dissapointed. I didnt know what a bred cow was supposed to look like. Last year I finally bought a bull and now my cows are supposed to calve sometime after July 31 and they are HUGE. Massive udders on 3 of them, my little heifer that has never had a calf is now 4 years old I think and she has a big udder hanging down. Two cows are so wide and wobbly they can hardly walk. I now KNOW they are bred just for looking. There is no mistaking it. They are wider than wide and it has nothing to do with being fat. I am starting to think now that if you cant tell if a cow is bred or not it probably isnt.

Our Dexter heifer had a VERY large udder 3 weeks prior to calving. She did not really look bred, but the udder was very clearly there.
