A great man has Passed !
Sad day today, My Father passed away today at the age of 89, he had been in the nursing home for two years, but had worked everyday till then. This was a man that had a hard but good life, farming with his father for most of the first fifty years of his life. He had gone from farming with horses to sidehill combines and Modern John Deere tractors. He was a man ahead of his time in most cases, he had the very first Glenco soil saver in our area, had the first sidehill combine in the neighborhood. He also was a master welder and made what he needed and built what he couldn`t buy. He was a good dairy man milking sixty head of holsteins and Brownswiss when he retired from dairying at 65. I then farmed on shares with him and raised hogs till he retired at 75, then I farmed the farm till my wife and I bought it when he turned 79. We then switched houses and he and Mom moved down the road to my house, he still helped at the farm running the hay baler till 83 when he proclaimed "I am done. I will no longer be helping you next year". He slowed down a little and just maintained the little over an acre where he lived, Mom and Dad moved into the nursing home two years ago as Mom was declining in health due to cancer she had fought for 13 years. Mom passed Jan. 2010 and Dad slipped very badly after her passing, he missed her nagging something fierce. He will be missed by five children, 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. > Thanks Marc :cow:

It doesn't matter how old you are or how old they are, your Mum is your Mum and your Dad is your Dad and the loss is always keen.
I'm glad you and your family were able to have him in your lives for as long as you did and that he took an active part in it until relatively recent years. Take care, Ronnie |
