okayyy, so today when i went out and checked on her.. Her udder was HUGE it was inflamed and i knew it hurt her cause when i touched it she tried kicking me several times.. Thank goodness the vet was on his way already to palpate.. He palpated her and said she was open.. So her inflamed udder was some sort of heifer Masititis(spelling)

Im very sad that she isn't expecting but I'm even more sad that she had a infection in her mammary gland

The vet said to just give her Aspirin bolus once or maybe twice a day in her food and it should clear up.

Im so sad that she is in pain!!!! :"( It breaks my heart.

No he said it wasn't affecting her eating so shots for it wasn't a must. He said it should clear up in 5 days and I'm worried now to even try breeding her again.. I feel guilty cause i wanted her bred and she gets sick instead and no baby

I wouldn't say for sure she was open. Pregnancy palpation that early can be challenging. Does your vet do alot of those?

Quote:
The main disadvantage of rectal palpation is that it cannot be performed until later in gestation than some other methods. Some veterinarians are able to determine pregnancy by palpation as early as 35 days after insemination, but usually rectal examinations take place between 45 and 60 days after insemination to increase the accuracy of the exam.

Why would you say not for sure? (not asking in a mean way!!! I just like hearing different opinions)
Now it is 41 days since the AI.
Yes, I would think so. He frequently visits a local dairy by me and he also grew up on a dairy farm. but theres always a chance of being wrong i guess.

Sounds like he's experienced. I'm just saying when you preg check 37 days after breeding, you are trying to feel something about 3/4 inch long floating around in fluid. Just harder, but can be done.

The other issue is that if she's not pregnant, why are you not seeing heat signs? Unless something is wrong, or she recently lost the pregnancy.

You're going to have to do something if you continue to not see heats. Maybe get the vet out again and do another preg check, and if she's for sure not pregnant, ask why no signs of heat.

I assume you are experienced at looking for signs of heat. Of course, if there are other cows, it's easier. Remember the one doing the riding isn't necessarily in heat. At some point the one in heat has to stand still while others mount her.

Also look for mucus discharge, bawling, and maybe blood on the rear a couple days after ovulation.

Here's a good article I was reading recently.
