Any news farmgirl??

Didn't know how long it takes to get the results back but I was wondering about ya! Hope it's soon!

farmgirl6 08/30/11 03:37 PM

Hi wasn't sure if you meant me farmgirl or the other farmgirl but no results yet, hopefully in a week, on pins and needles:)

allenslabs 08/30/11 08:04 PM

LOL! Didn't know there was another farmgirl! LOL! Shows how much I pay attention. Hoping the best for you!

lonelyfarmgirl 09/01/11 06:30 PM

I am another one, plus there is a fffffarmergirl on here too.

farmgirl6 09/01/11 07:46 PM

allenslabs 09/01/11 10:43 PM

Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

farmgirl6 09/06/11 12:37 PM

this is killing me....I almost wish I hadn't sent in the test, I could go on convincing myself everything is hunky dory

allenslabs 09/06/11 07:00 PM

I am sure it is...but it never hurts to have that paper in your hand that tells you everything is just fine too though. LOL!

oneokie 09/07/11 12:47 AM

I have been keeping an eye on this thread and have a question.

Why did your Vet. not do a pelvic examination of the cow in question?

farmgirl6 09/07/11 12:07 PM

That is a good question, I guess because I have heard that a FM might seem almost completely fine, but not be able to generate the hormones to keep a calf to term, and I was told a blood test was the only way to determine 100%..soooooo I figured might as well do that.

farmgirl6 09/07/11 12:12 PM

well, I can't stand it anymore and called, but she couldn't find the results so they are going to call me back...is that bad? man oh man, the stress is killing me, I broke out in shingles the other day, doc says it was stress....course could be my job:)

cowkeeper 09/07/11 12:56 PM

Hi Farmgirl, Soon you will have your result and whichever way it goes, knowing is better than the anxiety of uncertainty. It is the not knowing that causes more stress than knowing and being able to take the appropriate course.ck

farmgirl6 09/07/11 04:01 PM

she said she would call me right back, she didn't, maybe she didn't want to give me bad news? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH this is killing me!!

Cheryl aka JM 09/07/11 05:06 PM

Try calling them again maybe she forgot to call you back or got busy. I imagine they are used to anxious people calling....if you sent it to Genetic Visions I know for a fact they are....I couldn't wait and called both times I used them. First time was good news, second time was bad news...but both times they didn't act at all surprised that I was calling for results.

I bet you she isn't. They just are not all that common. Looking forward to hearing your good news!

farmgirl6 09/08/11 04:45 PM

well, Michelle called back to tell me they don't have results yet but it might be Friday...

farmgirl6 09/09/11 12:34 PM

I called back today, they are saying maybe Monday..they are killing me!!!!!

farmgirl6 09/12/11 03:10 PM

and still I wait

I called again this morning, still no results, maybe later today or tomorrow....I tell you my nerves are frayed...

allenslabs 09/12/11 06:47 PM

LOL! I know the feeling. LOL! Keep us updated!

topside1 09/13/11 03:49 PM

Great news, stand at ease & smile.

G. Seddon 09/13/11 04:02 PM

I know you must be very relieved. Glad you got the results you wanted!

farmgirl6 09/13/11 04:11 PM

thanks for all the good vibes everyone, let me tell you it was a big relief! and she is an A2/A2!! I feel like I hit the milk cow lottery! It makes it easier to defend to my husband my driving around with a sick cow with an IV in the back of my HUMVEE (happy with me, he was not!!) when I had to go on business travel!! He still hasn't forgiven me for that!

Catalytic 09/13/11 07:27 PM

Awesome news, congratulations!!!!!

CarolT 09/14/11 10:57 AM

Yippee!!! See? Doesn't it feel better _knowing_? You can get ulcers worrying :-) So glad it turned out good, I know everyone was on pins and needles with you.

DamnearaFarm 09/14/11 04:03 PM

milk cow

I am wondering if anyone can tell me if a milk cow will give us enough milk for a family with 7 kids. Also breed suggestions. What Can I use extra milk for if one produces enough milk for my tribe. We can easliy go through 5-7 gals a week.

milk cow

Glad to hear

farmgirl6 09/15/11 08:13 AM

I am a newby to this, but I think it may depend on the breed (seems like the amount of milk varies a ton, from eight to twenty or so gallons a day from what I have read, I think) and if you leave a calf on the cow? I've a family of four with my two kids being adults so I will likely leave the calf on Annabelle for our needs; you have a much bigger nest!!:) super smart folks on this blog, you might want to post this question as a new thread. All I can say is, watch out for freemartins:) that was my biggest nightmare so far....most folks will probably say you would be smarter to buy an adult cow already milking then do what I did (and thereby avoiding the entire FM question), I am a hobby farmer who enjoys the journey as much as the destination but am not by any means practical!! Sounds like with the size of your family a milk cow would be a great idea, but again I am not that experienced.
