Cheryl,
I know you're up north, but down in Slocomb (near Dothan and Jeffers ) is an organic dairy that sells their calves pretty cheaply. I don't know if they have any right now, but you could email or call if you feel like coming this far. $200 for heifer calves, $85 for bull

Thanks I'll email them! The other calves fell through~ they sold before I could get there to get them.

May I ask why you want two bull calves? I'm just trying to learn.

because Bessie is a dairy cross~ Jersey/holstien. She produces a LOT of milk. I get plenty of milk from my dairy goats~ but I don't know if there is enough thing as too much beef....

Oh ok, that makes sense. So, would you butcher them once they are weaned?

The last Holstein bull I raised on bottle I butchered at 18 months. I have a couple Holsteins now that age that are smaller than he was so I'll probably wait until closer to 24 months on them. So I guess the answer depends on how the animal looks, if my freezer is empty, and if I have any customers lined up waiting on a half a steer when I send them to freezer camp. 18 to 24 months seems to be what most people here do and it looks like a good plan to continue with for me. BTW~ I'm still learning all this too....ask lots of questions the nice people on this board have been talking me through this since I got my first bottle calves ~one of which is the momma of this calf!
