All 3 of my girls are "cull" cows--they were all 4 year olds when I got them and they are great cows. I paid 350 each, for two of them and 400 for the third- all are Jerseys, last fall., Took just a day or two for them to fully adjust to being hand milked.
You will be fine with her and I suspect you can get her to breed using a bull.
At first mine were a little stand offish, because they hadn't gotten much attention at the dairy. Now they all have distinct personalities and are very affectionate. You can tell I love 'em like children! Good luck with your new girl.

Hand milking is a great skill to have! And having an electric milker to do the work most of the time is a godsend.
