We've been spoiled with cheap energy and foolishly allowed ourselves to become dependent on it.
the problem is we've let out own govt screw us out of cheap fuel by kowtowing to whacko enviro weenies and mobster like oil cartels.
There is a lot of oil where we can get it. There is a lot of natural gas where we can get at it. We just need to be able to get at it.

My husband and I were expecting the prices to raise since early Summer. . .and raise they have. . .
here since Summer. . .oats have raised from $10 something per 80 to $16 PER 80!
Cracked corn is up to $14.50 a 100. . . from $9 in the summer.

6 1/2 ton of our dairy ration 16% was just shy of $2000, about 10 or 11 days worth.

You know what the farmer gets from these oats? About 6 bucks for 80 lbs... Somebody making some bucks.

You folks need to move up to the rotational grazing discussion. Grass is already showing growth in zone 7.

I was in a feed store today and just looking at some prices. So prices for horse feed (Pre Mixed)
The cheapest I found was the store brand at 10 bucks for a 50 pound bag. So that puts that at 20 a hundred.
The Highest priced was a 16% Protein horse feed mix from Nutrena, for a 40 pound bag 35.99~! Nearly 100 bucks for a hundred pounds.

That's why my horses get straight oats and a multi-vitamin added for balance. Feed prices are far outstripping inflation. They simply don't need the compounded feeds that contain things that are not necessary like corn and molasses which drive up the feed costs.

Yep, I'll do you one better as mine get only grass/hay and their minerals. Horses are usually overfed these days. One of my horses is fat on just the pasture.

I wish . . .too many mountains here for even straight grassfed beef. . .sadly.
I need to MOVE to some flatter land.

My horses get only oats except for the hard keepers and the easiest keepers get nothing but hay

That's what I was thinking. We've got just a little bit of green coming on, between snows of course. I'm in central TN and if I can afford the animals(!) this looks like it'll be a good year.

How do you spell "higher feed prices"? O-p-p-o-r-t-u-n-i-t-y. Good management will make us more competitive.
