Thank you Allen W. My point exactly!
You have to reverse engineer the mix to get the sulfur content down to a safe level.
So try this:
Is you grind 1,000 lbs of hay @ 08% protein
How much corn gluten with 15% protein can you safely add?
What is the daily dry matter protein of this mix after being adjusted for a .82% sulfur content.?
OT

Note:
Quote:
A survey of distillers’ grains from several Minnesota and South Dakota plants revealed that average concentrations of phosphorus and sulfur were 0.89% and 0.47%, respectively, but fluctuations in content ranged from 0.68% to 1.09% and 0.12% to 0.82%, for phosphorus and sulfur, respectively. Requirements for S in diets of growing cattle are 0.15% of the diet dry matter

For those of you who are ahead of the curve, here is where we are going next.
Phosphorus
http://www.ag.ndsu.edu/pubs/ansci/beef/as1286w.htm

Quote:
In the southeast, the use of soybean hulls and corn gluten feed as supplements for forage-based beef systems is common with distillers grains supplementation increasing. The phosphorus concentration for 615 samples of corn gluten feed and 3,519 samples of dried distillers grains analyzed by Dairy One laboratory was 1.04% and 0.88%, respectively. Assuming an intake of 3 lbs of corn gluten or distillers grains, the intake of phosphorus would be 14 gm and 12 gm from each of these sources, respectively. At a substitution rate of 0.5 lb of forage for each 1 lb of supplement, forage intake would be reduced only 1.5 lbs. Following the scenario above, a 2.6% intake level for a 550 lb calf would be near 15 lbs or 13.5 lbs of forage and 1.5 lbs of supplement resulting in 10 gm of available phosphorus from the forage. Total available phosphorus intake is calculated to be 22 to 24 gm or 200% to 218% the recommended phosphorus intake.[/

Would you now, using the Pearson Square formula, formulate the following mix for me.
Use:
Corn gluten with 15% protein
Cottonseed hulls with 3% protein.

Please give it to me in ratio and lbs.
Example ONLY:
5 parts corn gluten to 20 parts cottonseed hulls, will give you a 16% protein mix
And
5 lbs of corn gluten to 20 lbs of cottonseed hulls will give you a 16% protein mix.

And Please no more dog and pony shows or shell games as I am truly interested in understanding this. So you teach me!
Thank you
OT
No way can you mix feed and acheive a higher protein feed then the ingrediants you start out with.

Oldtimer if you want to be taken serious you need to either admit you don't know how to figure rations or use examples that make some kind of sense or have a point.

oldrtimer you posted I find it absolutely amazing how fast youins can find a formula to mix feed when your purpose is an attempt to prove me wrong, but when for weeks I asked you for a formula to mix corn gluten, all I got was a song and a dance.

and on 12/13/10 I posted exactly how to feed DDG.... DO NOT THINK THIS WAS A SONG AND DANCE

AND ON 12/15/10 i POSTED WHAT YOPU ASKED FOR

could not get it to work without some soybean hulls...this is the dry distillers....yOur ration cost WILL BE DIFFERENT those are old prices...this is only for the small calfs feeding them 9 pounds a day.......do not know why you would want to feed cows and thing except good hay....but thats up to you

hope this helps ready for questions I am sure you have some..

Why did you force me into lies, deceit and deception just to get you to admit there was/is in fact a proven industry accepted formula we could have been using when I first asked the question?

JUST WHO forced you to LIE....did they hold a gun to your head

IT would take a lot more then that to make me LIE

Please forgive me as I made a serious error that may have mislead you.
That statement should have read:
