Well it was 25 in the barn this morning, let the cows in right away and they ate their grain, then gave them a couple bales of hay. Before long it was above freezing. I don`t look forward to the times it won`t warm up much, I hate milking in artic gear. Stay warm, > Marc

I think I could deal with the cold & snow - it's the mud and poop I can do without! There's just so much of it!

No one wants to leave the barn. No use locking them out, they just try to break down the door to get back in. We leave the doors open & they can come & go.

They choose to come. And poop. And then make mud. And poop in the mud. And then lie in the assorted mud & poop. Did I mention poop? Lots of it? yeah, tired of that!

Ya I have winter! lol! Snow has been on the ground for a month now and they last two springs it has snowed the first week in June. Not normal, but it CAN happen. Usually around the start of May the snow is gone for good.

From start of November to end of March it doesn't rain unless something is wrong. Just snow snow and more snow.

But whatever. I am used to it I guess. I knew it was coming so I cant really act surprised winter is here.

I am bloody lucky, the only thing 'extra' I have to do in winter is arrange for someone to put out some round bales of hay for my horses/cows once every few weeks and check the water bowl daily. I rent winter corrals so the owners take care of snow removal. My rabbits need water twice a day instead of once a day. My dogs need warm soup instead of separate water and food. No big deal.

Compared to Alaska standards, I'm guessing winter will never arrive for you in Texas. LOL

Well I got feed ground for the cows today, everything started and ran. Looked like I was gettin ready for a farm auction today. Had both tractors out and running, skid loader running, grinder mixer, wagon load of ear corn. Then I have to put everything back in. Then do chores again, man no wonder a guy gets tired. > Stay Warm, Marc

Biggest thing I have to deal with so far is keeping ice out of the water tank. My heating element broke and until I get a new one, I'm breaking ice three times a day. Been in the twenties for the last few days. The ground is finally freezing hard. I'm not complaining though. November was warm in the 50's and 60's which means only three months of winter weather this year. Some years we get closer to six months starting in October. Yep, I'm counting my blessings. I even got an extra month of grazing instead of feeding hay. I'm saving money. That's always a good thing. Nope, not gonna complain. Not yet anyhow.

My Toque

It's all in how you are dressed. The children run around half naked and complain about the cold, but mine are teens so no brains. I've stopped worrying about my two cows when I saw one sleeping outside in a hay pile. It was easy to clean their walk-in, just threw out frozen pucks, wondering if this is how hockey was invented. A frozen cow patty sliding on ice, someone goes ewww and tries to hit it with a stick. Or could it have been curling, some where large like bricks. Clear the way with a broom. I need to get pictures. It is pretty, their little home looks like a regular manager. So far it is nice, no biting bugs. I just hate the nose pincher weather, and will begin worrying about the girls again when and if it hits. The men are acting like big boys playing with their ski-doos. I keep asking if there is enough snow. Not really they reply but keep playing.
