Well, I switched hay around the time that she would have gotten large and it put a few lbs on my horses too so, there ya go.

She's at 7 days past now and no signs so I am thinking "not prego". She was actually quite loud for 24 hours early this week, too. I thought pregnancy hormones but am wondering if she was in heat. I guess count 3 weeks out and schedule the AI technician. This time, I will preg test.

I need to have her daughter bred too. She is 16 months old so should be close to ready. I might try syncing up their cycles too.

If time permits can you take a straight on rear view pic centered about where the udder attaches to the body?

It is very clear that there is no calf.

I will wait to see if I can determine heat (actually think she was in on Sept 2nd) count 21 days and try again. I supposed Violet will be an expensive lawn ornament for another 9-10 months.

I have a goat. (ok, I have several)
First year with her, took her and her daughter to a neighbors buck about 5 miles away. Hoped the older one got bred but was not sure. Fast forward about 4 months, gee, I wonder if she did get bred, she sure gained a belly and there is udder development. The younger one looked preg, but we were certain she did get bred. (just not certain about the older one.) Had a friend bump her, yep, she has kids in there. well, she never kidded that year, though she did look like she should have, milk and all.

She had kids the next two years.

Then last year we bred her and she never looked preg at all. I figured that she was just too old. Even the morning that I had three does due, she did not look preg one bit. Three hours later my step dad calls me to tell me about who is kidding, and tried to tell me the old one was kidding, and I was sure he had them confused. When I got home, yes that doe was the first to kid. The third that was due that day and looked ready to pop lasted another 4 days.
That old doe went from looking no way she was bred to kid on the ground with full udder in three hours.
I gave up trying to estimate pregnancy. I just try to mark on the calender every time I see anyone in season so that I can at least try to guess when I should stick around home.

My cow is due in 2 weeks. Yep, I should have had her preg checked. Had the bull here two months and have not seen her in season and she sure looks big and uncomfortable, and there is udder development, but well...
we'll see!

I keep checking this thread and hoping you have a calf out of the blue. . .

How disapointing!

If she is leaking any milk, I would start milking her and see if I could get some production out of her...better in my opinion than her being "an expensive lawn ornament" ;-)
Good luck!

All that belly, and no calf?!

Yeah, I know it's possible. Darn it all!

I asked my boss at work what was the longest he's seen a cow go past her due date. He said about two weeks.

Well, DARN!

I am not a cow person, and I am only passing on what I heard:

A person bought a young bull at auction and took him home to her tiny herd and left him with them for 3 months.

She then re-sold him at the auction at a profit (he had gained some on her good grass) and had had the cattle all bred to boot. Instead of paying AI for one service, she had made a profit on multiple services.
