How old is this heifer? I read the original post as being "circa 3-month old". At any rate, my guess is an injury to the spine. Getting her up into a sling may allow her to recover.

I do not know the heifer's age. I was estimating 3 months, but I don't know anything about cattle. My father-in-law then said she was a year old, but he doesn't keep records. We are attempting to rig a sling. I will keep you all posted. Thanks so much for the information and advice!
Thanks Agmantoo for the sling picture! It gives me something to go on.

My best guess is that there is a bull in the pasture and the heiffer was injured during breeding. My advice would be to butcher her for the freezer if you haven't given her any antibiotics or steroids.

We had to put her down yesterday as we could not sling her and she wasn't going to get up. A sad waste and loss. Thank you so much to all of you who gave advice.
