I am one who wasn't impressed with the Dexter cow I got, though can't judge the entire breed on just one. Poor milk production and calf wasn't very beefy.
So I found a Jersey/Lowline angus cross heifer, who's grown to be 46" tall about to have her fourth calf. Breed her to lowline bulls and calves are beefy and hornless. So, good milk and meat producer. Only problem is finding such a cow. Here's a site that makes the same cross with miniature jersey and lowline. Probably not cheap, but considering you might own the cow 10 or 15 years, you need to get what you want.
