Cow due to calve Part 3 (webcam is on)
Well, I have the 2nd of the year due to calve. She will calve anywhere between late this morning and tonight. Her ligaments are lax, and ready to go. Sorry for the short notice, however I waited till she was close.

Is that not her calf, next to her?
Susie, I think that calf in the seperate pen is from the last cow, but I just checked in at the webcam so maybe its moved over, but I doubt it, she would normally have more time with the calf, I don't think this cow has calved, unless you can see another calf in the pen with her, I can't right now.

No thats the calf from Kahlua (Kallisto), in the front section. Spitfire (one due) isn't as big some of the other cows, so I left Kallisto in that front section, and gave Spitfire 3/4 of the stall. The stalls were actually supposed to be divided by 1/2 if need be, so its 9x10, however it ended up being 10x19, which does work better. Hopefully I will have calf pens, that can double as a box stall in the barn this summer.
Also if you notice, her tail is out, and before we left the barn she was manuring little, as in manuring small amounts. She should calve today without a doubt, in fact by this evening. Jeff |
the way she is lying now looks promising....
She is calving.. Why cant she wait till this evening? I like my naps ;).
humph-- she's up again. false alarm. ;)
She looks very uncomfortable. Are the midwives ready and waiting?
oh, yay! I got all discouraged when she got up.
It doesn't seem she could raise her tail any higher.
Jeff,
What is she sired by and what is she bred to? Casey |
Tell me that's not the baby, blocked by the fencerail.
Ah...the midwife team has arived on the scene.
Jeff, how do these cows react to being on candid camera? Do they seem to be more nervous and unsettled? Sometimes if I see a cow ready to lay down and push she appears to hold the little fellow in a little longer if I don't give her space to get it done.
They took a look and moved on. ;)
Guess she's got a little longer to go. |
How many people are watching?
That other little calf is awfully interested. She'll get a little friend to play with soon.
So cute. I am neglecting my own animals to watch this! |
looks like we're going to get to see it from the wrong end! She is down and positioned with her head facing us.
think something is going on now

They must know we're all watching. :) |
The midwives seem to cool...must not be happening, yet.
Why do these cows put their ends up against the rails?
Where Are The Midwives???!!
Right now that cow is probably thinking to herself, "man I wish I was on a fifty acre pasture of rolling grass that had a patch of green briars and thickets tucked in one corner that I could get right in the middle of to calve." !!!!!!
Are the feet coming out upside down???
The view is good.
Please ask the blue midwife to scoot over a bit....I can't see!
Progressing quickly......
Happening fast!
Nice butt shot.
Now what?
That cow ought to be renamed 'Yoyo'.
A little further down, please!
Is it the shyness kicking in? Too close to the corner of the pen and can't see much!!
Am I crazy or was there the back half of a calf sticking out of her earlier????
Is the bucket for drinking or for soaping up?
looks like a little calf standing behind mama
Has she had the calf?
Am wondering if she is licking the calf now in the corner? Or what has her attention there now that she is up?
So...they helped her pull it and then put it in the corner?
The 2 minute lapse is too long! |
Two minutes....
Yes, I am thankful for the opportunity to watch, but lots can happen in between times! What a neat set up for allowing us to watch!
Can we have speakers for the next one, please?
Jeff do you buy all your wood chips by the bag?
