Casey,

The cows sire was a herd bull. He is Quiet-Brook-D Beethoven, and the calf's sire is a bull that was mine, came out of a 86pt dam, was that particular cows first calf (the sire to the calf). I sold him, actually went to an auction. I was going to breed him to another cow, but he was a pain to keep seperate, and not worth the time. The calf that I lost in early December I think was sired by our bull, as this calf has the same type of frame. Sucks too, that particular calf was a nice calf.

Not sure if you saw the other calf in there prior to us removing it, to let this cow calve in peace. But that calf is a Talent out of an Outside, dam is out of a 87pt Progress..

Francismilker,

They dont seem bothered with us being there, they push as they do by themselves, we are around them quite a bit, so they are used to the activity. Camera lets me check from the house, so makes that part handy.

The calf is a bull calf. Would be nice if it was a heifer, but I am not dissapointed actually. I have others due this spring I rather have heifers out of. One around March 1st which is an Advent due to a Talent. The advent is out of a redmarker out of a Integrity.

One of the cows, is due to Advent in March, she is 86pts, EX dairyness, VG F&L and mammary (mammary is 86). Another due in April, a Goldwyn due to Advent, the goldwyn is a potential 11th generation vg or ex. I have one of my heifers due in April as well. She is a Bosside ruben out of a rubens out of an outside out of a belltone. The rubens is 86, EX dairyness. This heifer is due to Shottle.. Then in May I have a Shottle due to Talent, Shottle's dam is EX90, EX-MS, with a PTPI of 1750 or so.

Then in June, all three id love to have heifers. One is due to Advent (she is VG87 88MS, dam lifetime production was 225,000+/lbs), and two Rubens are due to Talent..

We did pull the calf, after the first one I am not taking any chances. Everyone else this fall calved without pulling, now it is a reflex..

Jeff

I thought you might have to pull him -- he was coming out backwards, right? And looked a little stuck.

Thanks for sharing this with everyone - it is better than TV.
