Freemartinism is recognized as one of the most severe forms of sexual abnormality among cattle. This condition causes infertility in the female cattle born twin to a male. When a heifer twin shares the uterus with a bull fetus, they also share the placental membranes connecting the fetuses with the dam.

I wasn't going to post on here, but I don't want you to run into the same problem that I did.

We have a 20 month old heifer that we have had since birth. She probed with the tube as breedable, not a freemartin. Well we had the vet out on Friday to check her just to be safe, because she wasn't having real strong detectable heat cycles.

She turned out to be a freemartin, She has all the right parts but they are not hooked up. Needless to say we will be eating her in about a month.

Just wanted to give you a word of caution, that just because a heifer isn't born to a twin doesn't always make them breedable.

thats another reason why I sell at 400 pounds IF THEY ARE UNBREDABLE ..I do not have much money in them and can almost sell as beef and get my money back ....instead of keeping to 1000 and then them not bred I would go way in the hole....tjm

I use the blankets on my calves. My wife made them and they really seem to like them. Also I think it helps"get them going" being warm. Also get a milk bar they are the best thing invented mine does three calves.

We live in frigid Alberta and have a 3 sided run-in cattle shed for our dairy calves. Once they have a belly full and are up and running they can withstand quite severe cold.

That price seems extremely low to me as well. If they raise registered show stock I'd expect prices to be 2-3 times what they are asking. My first reaction was that they are trying to sell you freemartins as well. But then you said they weren't even born yet and you get to choose. I dunno, just seems suspiciously low to me. LOL
