I think we have been fortunate around here. Listening to the old-timers, there have been times with plenty of snow. It's probably not a good idea to bank on our recent history weather. I just don't want to put all my eggs in one basket.

Interestingly, I came up with a mixture based on what I've learned and it included some of what you suggested. Today we bought some annual rye, orchard grass, and Korean lespedeza. From what I've read, these will all compliment each other very well. My only comcern is that I don't have the means to cultivate and will have to broadcast. Our soil is so pathetic that it has a layer of thatch, due, in part, to the lack of microbes and bacteria. But, this will change. Thanks again.
