I wish I could find an AI guy. All the big farmers around here do their own AI, I can't find anyone who will come to my house for a fee and do the job.
Donna,
Where in MO are you located? I keep my own liquid nitrogen bucket and have straws of semem for beef as well as Jersey and Dexter. We have a lady at Plattsburg, MO who works for ABS and furnishes our liquid nitrogen and AIs all around this area. She might know a tech. in your area. PM me and I will give you her phone number.

He is a sweetie and just like a pet. He would not be practical as a farm bull. We are keeping him because there is a market for his semen. He will be collected and tested for the first time in a few months.

The rest of our cows are about 42" tall. They just look like small jerseys. At this size they are easy to milk and easy to handle. A full grown, lactating cow averages 500 - 600 pounds.

We do use a lot of milk here. We drink a lot and make cheeses and yogurts. All leftovers are fed to pigs.

I agree that when choosing a cow you have to look at what your needs are and then study and choose the right breed for you

Jersey Girl,
What is the background of your bull? By that I mean the milking average of his dam and her background. I might be interested in semen when you collect.

Linn, his mother is our best milker, averaging 6 gallons a day. We usually cut her back to 4 for ourselves because that is all we can use. I can pm you her linage etc. if you want. All I have on the father is the info on his registration paper which does not include milk info. I have pictures of our bull and his mother if you would like to see them. Most pictures of him (Spike) are next to a 5 gallon bucket so you can tell size easier. At 2 years the Vet will take his official height for his papers.
Let me know if you want more info.
Joanie
