HT locking up computer

Has anyone had any problems with their computer when visiting HT?
Mine locks up and I have to back out and restart.
Doesn't do it every time but probably every 4th time.

Back out and restart what? Your browser? Windows? The computer?

I have never had a speck of trouble with HT. Especially since I ditched PC's and went with a Mac. LOL

Yes, about once a week or so the browser will stall while on HT -- doesn't happen on any other site. I have to close the browser (IE) and open it again to continue. What locks up more is individual threads. Sometimes a thread just won't open, but the next time I visit it will open fine. Gremlins at work!

That is what happens to me. I click on some thread and it doesn't do a thing.
I have to hit the back button and try again. Sometimes that doesn't even work and I have to leave and come back. It only happens on HT.
I think it is just too many adds. I used to be able to stop them but with the change to adds at the first and adds in the middle it is just too much.

I've had trouble with HT off and on, it's been acting up again lately. If I look at my address bar, it says I'm where I want to be, but it didnt actually go there. I refresh it, sometimes 3-4 times, maybe a couple more, it usually eventually goes, sometimes I get redirected to some totally different site when I click on something here. Sometimes I just give up and go soemwhere else, I don't have any problems anywhere else, it's this site that's messed up somehow. It's frustrating, and discourages me from coming here when it does this.

I have problems with this site, too, like no other.

It boots me out pretty regularly. I sometimes log in 30 times a day.

If I'm clicking through pages of new posts from hitting the 'New Posts' button, it will give me a message that I need to refresh (can't remember the exact language, but basically it says to try some different terms), usually after I've reviewed only one or two pages -- with no delay in between reviews of pages. After I hit 'New Posts,' it will tell me I have to wait ** seconds, as if I've hit refresh too soon. Then it boots me out again.

Crazy and irritating. I've cleared cookies and browsing history, logged in manually, deleted software I thought might be causing the problem. No joy.

That is exactly what mine does. Sometimes if I hit the back button and try again it will work. It is pretty discouraging. Gets where it isn't worth the effort.

The last couple days, I've had a problem happen 3 or 4 times. When I click on a thread, it will only open the OP's opening posting and not load any of the other postings in that thread. I can use the refresh, back button and nothing helps. I have to close the browser and reopen it. I use Linux Ubuntu with Google Chrome and/or Firefox.

In the last couple days there have been a couple threads that seem to take forever to load. I am on DSL with fiber optics running to the house.

I use Safari, and have not used IE For ages BUT, has anyone tried using CNTRL + Click to open a new tab, and close the old one?

Can you all check and see if a same add it showing just before or once you get in? If it's an ad causing it, we can let Chuck know and he can see about blocking it.

I have been having terrible problems ever since this big ad blitz campaign started. I've blocked the ads but the site is always screwed up.

I noticed two.
One is the berkley water ad and the other is a car ad that keeps on loading.
I think the berkely water add is the worst.

Yes, all of the above is happening to me too. Way too many times a day and way too many popup ads coming up in right in the middle of the screen and blocking the view of all script. I can log in but often can't log out, the computer freezes up and then I have to manually switch off the power to the computer just to get out of HT because I can't get it to turn off normally. Then I have to turn it back on after a few minutes and it takes ages to boot up and then I have to delete cookies and everything on C drive before I can get back on internet. I especially have a hard time getting into and out of Singletree, S&EP and General Chat and 2 or 3 times a day when I'm on here I'll get a popup from my anti-virus program letting me know that's it's just detected another virus that's been quarantined and asking for directions on what I want to do about it, it's always something different each time. It's becoming very frustrating.

What type of virus protection are you running?
Many times virus programs THINK they find one. THINK is the key word.
And Norton Internet Security IS GREAT for doing just that.
I bet not one of those are REAL viruses.
And many people think that turning up the protection to the highest is the best way to go, when in fact you run into more and more problems just like is being described here.
I never go =over the Medium setting, and have never had a virus hit, OR have as much trouble as some on here seem to be having.

I don't know. Not Norton, I've heard too much bad stuff about Norton. It's Avira and some other stuff that's provided through the server. I'm computer illiterate - I just want it to work for me without me having to fuss over it. My computer guy came to the house and I said "install whatever you have to install to the computer to protect me" and he did. I don't have any problems on any other sites nor on any search engines.

there has been one of the moving ads blocked that may have caused problems.

Check tomorrow and let us know if it's still happening, please. And if so, tell us the ad - get the address if you can, you'd probably have to click on it and copy then come back here and paste that address - this gives Chuck specific information to deal with. Just saying the name of a company ad does not give the specific information.

NL and I are on the same server at the house. Here is one that just now froze my computer and gave me a virus alert. It happened in S&EP immediately when I went to Angie's poll topic about the location of S&EP.

Virus alert message was as follows:
Virus or unwanted program "TR/crypt.zpack.Gen8" has been found in C:\Documents and settings....\LIQUID19437670.EXE

The ad that popped up was for some kind of online space wars game, here is the link: http://www.nemexia.com/

Okay, here is one that has me locked in in another window and I can't get out of it to get back to HT in that window: Viking Arcade - Play Free Flash Games

It happened while I was reading in S&EP and went to look at another topic in S&EP. I will have to turn off the computer now as I can't get out of that vikingarcade games site.

I hope this posts.

Here is more happening right now, again while reviewing and posting in S&EP. These have opened up and filled the whole screen when I went to view new topics in Current Events and have frozen the computer in other windows. I'll have to shut down the computer again after I post this to get out of them as I can't exit from them: >

Genesis Coupe 2013 | Well Engineered Sports Luxury Car | Hyundai Canada

BrightRoll | The Leading Provider of Online Video Advertising Services

Edited to add that virus alert warned me of 22 viruses and trojans - unfortunately I'm unable to copy and paste here what they are. Turning off computer now and going to do a complete scan and quarantine.

thanks for all the information, I've put it where Chuck can see it, and tech can... trying to bring more attention to this issue.

I'm not sure why you guys are seeing adds all over? The only add I see is a single banner add across the top of each main forum section. I don't use an outside anti-virus program, only Security Essentials that is built in from Microsoft, and the built-in Microsoft pop up blocker. No freezing here.

I do see moving adds within threads on my puter at work, only when logged out of the site. That work computer has been freezing up on HT the last week or so.

thanks all -
I've been in communication with Chuck and the ad providers has been notified and first chance to work on it is Monday.

So, don't click on those ads now.

Appreciate your help in getting the information.
