You aren't allowed to post in GC until you've shown yourself to be a productive member of the board in other areas.

Why is this rule so secretive? I can't find any explaination as to 'why' people new to the forum are banned from one section of it? What is so different about General Chat? There are so many threads out there that are nothing more than general chat. Goodness there's even one where people can just ramble on about what they did each day like public blog.

Have I missed where it's located?

There is nothing secretive about it. Check this particular forum out and you'll see.

GC is a sideshow for off-topic conversations - not the primary reason for this BBS' existence. It is a privilege afforded those already contributing into the various topics that make up homesteading and self-reliance.

I've never thought of GC as a privilege before. I have wondered why I put myself through the torment of even going there, but it's like an addiction sometimes.

Members List

Sorry for stealing this thread. I have been here awhile. I am still a rookie and prefer to read good advise rather than offer bad advice.

But, I am not listed on the members list. And I could not open an attached image in the Survival and Preparedness Section.

I know I can't post to General Chat yet, but I don't know what milestone I have to get to to do that.

sometimes images can be seen on one computer and not another and usually it's your internet security settings that make the difference. I use three different computers during the day, and this one sees things, the ones at work do not.

And you will not show on the member list until after 10 posts.

The reason newbies are prevented from accessing it is because there have been so many hit and run members who have joined, started a huge fight, and then left (or had to get banned).

Many forums do this. I have boards at my forum that are not accessible to new members. It didn't used to be that way, but it had to become that way after a few newbies started wars and then disappeared, leaving the mess behind them.

It's not because forum admins are being mean. We can't tell which new members will be nice and which ones will cause trouble.

That's part of it - the other part is visitors from various political agendas whom used to go straight to GC and begin pimping their point of view and/or candidate.

As I like to say, GC is a sideshow, discussions about homesteading and self-reliance are primarily what this BBS are about.

I know for a fact that at least one of the people that has posted on the song thread can't carry a tune in a galvanized bucket.

There's a hole in my bucket, dear Oggie, dear Oggie, There's a hole in the bucket, dear Oggie, a hole.

Well fix it dear Lady, dear Lady, dear Lady, well fix it dear Lady, dear Lady, fix it.

With what shall I fix it, dear Oggie, dear Oggie, with what shall I fix it dear Oggie, with what?

With a straw, dear Lady, dear Lady, dear Lady, with a straw, dear Lady, dear Lady, a straw.

But the straw is too long, dear Oggie, dear Oggie, but the straw is too long, dear Oggie, too long.

Then cut it, dear Lady, dear Lady, dear Lady, then cut it, dear Lady, dear Lady, cut it.

With what shall I cut it? dear Oggie, dear Oggie, With what shall I cut it? dear Oggie, with what?

With a knife, dear Lady, dear Lady, dear Lady, With a knife, dear Lady, dear Lady, a knife.

But the knife is too dull. dear Oggie, dear Oggie, But the knife is too dull, dear Oggie, too dull.

Well sharpen it, dear Lady, dear Lady, dear Lady, Well sharpen it, dear Lady, dear Lady, sharpen it.

With what shall I sharpen it? dear Oggie, dear Oggie, With what shall I sharpen it? dear Oggie, with what?

With a stone, dear Lady, dear Lady, dear Lady, With a stone, dear Lady, dear Lady, a stone.

But the stone is too dry dear Oggie, dear Oggie, But the stone is too dry dear Oggie, too dry.

Then wet it, dear Lady, dear Lady, dear Lady, Then wet it, dear Lady, dear Lady, wet it.

With what shall I wet it? dear Oggie, dear Oggie, With what shall I wet it? dear Oggie, with what?

With the water, dear Lady, dear Lady, dear Lady, With the water, dear Lady, dear Lady, the water.

But where shall I get it? dear Oggie, dear Oggie, But where shall I get it? dear Oggie, but where?

In the well, dear Lady, dear Lady, dear Lady, In the well, dear Lady, dear Lady, the well.

With what shall I fetch it? dear Oggie, dear Oggie, With what shall I fetch it? dear Oggie, with what?

With the bucket, dear Lady, dear Lady, dear Lady, With the bucket, dear Lady, dear Lady, the bucket.

But there's a HOLE in my bucket, DEAR OGGIE, DEAR OGGIE, There's a HOLE in my bucket, dear OGGIE A HOLE!!!

It's a good thing that I'm not too bright or I might think you were callin' me dull and an a hole.

Some of your posts inspire me into total silliness, and I just can't help myself.
